We empower the working poor in Hong Kong

MAKE IT WORK HK counts with 4 centres in Hong Kong.

Our platform enables the working poor to directly access social community, training and employment services; with a promise to create and sustain an improvement in their overall well-being.

480.000 people in Hong Kong are poor, despite one or more family member having a job. We want to make their lives better.

We offer:

  • Access To Community

Our 4 centres in Hong Kong give the workers a place to mingle, a chance to share experiences and make friends. Some of our members tend to be isolated, our centres are an ideal place for them to connect and receive help from social workers.

  • Career Assistance

Our aim is to provide a personalised and warm support to each of our member. Our social workers provide them with individual counselling, personal career advice and support, while sharing job industry knowledge and job opportunities.

  • Employment Services

Our number 1 objective is to help our members to get a better job. We provide coaching and job support on diverse themes (computers, English, Mandarin,..) as well as an access to professional trainings organized by our corporate partners.

  • Healthy Meals

Thanks to our partner Food Angel, we serve a HK$8 lunch-set to our members every day from Monday to Friday. A total of more than 200 dietician-supervised meals are served every day in our 4 centres.

Open 5 days a week throughout the year, each centre serves 50 meals a day over lunch time.

For HK$8 only, eligible participants enjoy dietician-supervised meals providing them the nutrients they need to go through the day.

Moreover, the centre offers to its members a welcoming environment to interact with peers and to build a community support network.

Over lunch time or after their working day, the members are invited to meet with social workers and to attend workshops/learning sessions giving them the opportunity to enhance their employability and work skills and get better chance to upgrade their jobs.

Additionally, the program offers them opportunities to develop their network and to meet with professionals coming from various industries.

The program offers:

  • Career guidance sessions
  • Work skill training ( specific to each member’s capabilities)
  • Job information/job offers sessions
  • English & Mandarin language learning

The French Chamber Foundation will be actively involved by matching the members’ training and information needs identified by the social workers withexpertise and offers of support from members of the French Chamber.

Each centre organizes a job-matching service collecting vacancies, preparing beneficiaries for interviews and supporting new recruits in their first steps in their new role.

With the support of the French Chamber of Commerce, the Foundation constantly leverages its network to gather suitable job opportunities and involve small and large companies to join this meaningful initiative.

Food Angel

Food Angel is a food rescue and food assistance program launched in 2011 by Bo Charity Foundation with the mission of "WASTE NOT, HUNGER NOT." The program rescues edible surplus food from different sectors of the food industry that would otherwise be disposed of as waste. Following strict safety protocols, the donated food items will then be prepared as nutritious hot meals in their central kitchen and be redistributed to serve the underprivileged communities in Hong Kong.
